My first blog entry as you'll miss Elegance of the world 24/25
Not only is this my first blog entry as you're miss Elegance but it is also the first blog entry that I have written.
I want to ensure that I am using my title and my platform given to me in the best way I can. I aim to raise awareness on many issues and also discuss things not often discussed but need to be mentioned.
As so many if you are aware I recently lost my mum to cancer, and was providing her end-of-life care myself from home. Currently I am in the midst of planning her funeral service and final goodbye. This is the first topic of discussion... the profitability, in my opinion unnecessarily, in the funeral market.
Having expressed my struggles to a wonderful manager at the company.... I have learned that you are able to outsource a lot of the items yourself and they do not need to be purchased from their contractors or suppliers . Haven't done a little bit of researched I've been able to save myself in excess of 600 pounds.. a crazy profit on some white say the vulnerable who are grieving.
More often than not you don't want the hassle or the stress to research or outsource items in order to save yourself money. so many will go with convenience over saving at a time that they grieve.
In my opinion it is very much taken advantage of them because they are grieving are not necessarily in a position where they're wanting to outsource resources or items for the purpose of saving and therefore the extortionate markup on these products knowing people will just pay.
Now in a lot of ways this would be considered abuse and also seem criminal to be honest.
In my professional life I run a community interest company which offers support work services, to those who want to keep their independence to live at home but need some assistance in various aspects of their lives. I care for a lot of elderly and I have assisted in the end of life care process with multiple clients as well as family members and most recently my mum.
It has made me realise that there is a potential market for me to assist client's family members with funeral costs- helping them to find items online at cheaper rates, or companies that provide the same service at a cheaper rate than the suggested funeral directors suppliers.
The extortionate prices are coffin, the urn, the wake, the food, the flowers I mean of course you expect flowers to be, but some of the unnecessary asking prices are extortionate.
I would love to open up this discussion and hear from anyone who has been shocked and astounded by the expensive prices involved in funeral planning. I understand why so many pay monthly into a funeral plan to try and help their family members with this however when you think about the amount of money paid into these funeral plans and the amount of money that is paid on the funeral service... is that an unnecessary cost could that be spent better in other ways. Let me know!
